How long have you worked for Barwon Health: Since December 2022
I was initially attracted to working at Barwon Health because of their new graduate podiatry position, which offered exposure to a varied caseload of acute, subacute, rehabilitation, and residential aged care at both the University Hospital Geelong and the McKellar Centre. Barwon Health has been instrumental in supporting my career development through regular seminars as part of their allied health graduate program. These seminars provide opportunities to engage with other allied health professionals and share experiences and knowledge, creating a collaborative culture that eases the transition from student to professional. The most fulfilling aspect of my role as a podiatrist within a larger multidisciplinary team at Barwon Health is empowering consumers to be active participants in their care and make a meaningful difference to their quality of life. I believe that Barwon Health is different from other health services due to its community engagement and advocacy, as well as its collaboration with other healthcare providers to improve the health outcomes of its consumers and wider community. This was evident in the recent Barwon Best Care Awards 2022, where Barwon Health's project managers received an award for their development of "Using Technology to improve Patient Experience with Diabetes Foot Ulcers".

How long have you worked for Barwon Health? 3 years
After graduating, I had a strong desire to work within the public sector, and this led me to Barwon Health. Coming from a regional background, I was attracted to the opportunity to work in a similar environment. Over the past four years, I have been fortunate to work in various locations as a podiatrist, which has provided me with a comprehensive understanding of public health systems. Starting as a new graduate, I worked in a range of acute, sub-acute, and aged care roles, which gave me a solid foundation to progress into more independent work. Barwon Health has been incredibly supportive of my career development, offering personal development days and opportunities to further my education while working. As a podiatrist in acute care, I enjoy the daily challenge of dealing with unique cases and find great satisfaction in helping others. What sets Barwon Health apart from other healthcare services is its tight-knit integration of acute, rehab, community health, and aged care, making it the heart of the Geelong community.
