Rehabilitation

Rehabilitation Service

Rehabilitation focuses on the care of people who have experienced a temporary or permanent disability as a result of an illness or injury such as a stroke, brain injury, amputation, orthopaedic surgery, acute or chronic illness.

Rehabilitation involves healthcare professionals working with an individual to overcome a disability that limits that person’s capabilities and ability to operate within their environment. Rehabilitation assists the natural recovery process and sometimes involves learning new ways of doing things.

Specialist rehabilitation services may include medical services, rehabilitation nursing, social work, physiotherapy, hydrotherapy, occupational therapy, neuropsychology and clinical psychology, recreation therapy, speech pathology, podiatry, dietary services, pharmacy services, diabetes education, prosthetics and orthotics.

Barwon Health recognises that the key to successful rehabilitation is to maximise the individual’s ability to participate in key activities that are integral to the individual’s lifestyle. In addition to this, it is imperative to remove the disabling barriers of the environment that limit the patient’s participation both within the inpatient environment and the patient’s own living environment.

Barwon Health offer rehabilitation under the following areas:

  • Inpatient
  • Community Rehabilitation
  • Specialist rehabilitation services
