Midwifery Career Expansion Program: Enhancing midwifery skills in a public health setting
Barwon Health is proud to announce the launch of its highly anticipated Midwifery Career Expansion Program (MCEP) for 2023 at University Hospital Geelong (UHG). This ground-breaking program presents registered midwives with a unique opportunity to broaden their skill set and deepen their knowledge in a public health setting. With four positions available, the MCEP aims to provide a platform for midwives to excel in their clinical expertise while navigating the dynamic challenges of maternity care, all under the expert guidance of the hospital's esteemed maternity services education and clinical support team.
The Midwifery Career Expansion Program spans a comprehensive 12-month period, set to commence in September 2023. Successful candidates will be appointed to temporary positions, with time fractions ranging from 0.6 to 0.8. The program itself consists of an intensive 6-month curriculum, offering a transformative 12-week supported learning experience followed by a 12-week consolidation period. There will be an opportunity to apply for any ongoing permanent or temporary position that may be available towards the end of this 12 months.
The objective of the Midwifery Career Expansion Program is to equip registered midwives with the necessary skills and knowledge to thrive within the public health sector. The program seeks to facilitate the expansion, consolidation and adaptation of midwifery skills. It caters to a diverse range of midwives, including newly graduated professionals seeking expanded clinical exposure, midwives desiring a consolidation period after postgraduate studies, those looking to re-enter the workforce after a hiatus and registered midwives yearning to transition their clinical skills into a public setting.
Jamie-Lee Luckham, one of the clinical educators overseeing the program, expressed her enthusiasm for the program.
