Allied Health Research & Translation - Dr Denise Jones

Background

I am a physiotherapist by background with 30 years of clinical experience (eek!) and more than 15 years involvement as an undergraduate and postgraduate educator in both clinical and university settings. I specialised in musculoskeletal physiotherapy, undertaking a Masters degree at the University of South Australia and returning to the UK to work as an extended scope practitioner. I returned to Australia in 2016 and completed my PhD at La Trobe University in December 2020.

I have been privileged to take up the post of Allied Health Research and Knowledge Translation Lead at Barwon and South West Healthcare in April 2022, following in the footsteps of Olivia King, Rosalie Boyce and Paul Dodemaide. This is a truly exciting opportunity to continue to promote and develop the diverse research being undertaken by Allied Health Practitioners in the region.

Research Focus

Alongside my role here at Barwon Health I am an Adjunct Research Fellow at La Trobe University with my research focusing on hip-related pain and physical activity. I am a member of the International Hip-related pain Research Network, a multidisciplinary collaboration influencing international consensus for the management of hip pain. I have experience in quantitative and qualitative approaches and a keen interest in the practical application of research efforts to improve outcomes for our patients.
