Housekeeper/ Cleaner (PS21)

Housekeepers and cleaners provide high-quality cleaning, housekeeping, waste management, and pest control services in accordance with Aged Care Standards and the Australian Commission on Safety and Quality in Health Care Standards.

What do you need to start?

You don't need any qualifications to work in this team making this is a terrific opportunity to join Barwon Health in an entry-level role.

What you do need is a keen eye for cleanliness, the ability to do a Functional Capacity Assessment to make sure you are capable of doing physical work for eight-hour shifts, and a positive and caring nature to be able to understand the sensitivity and confidentiality of working in healthcare.

Patient Services Assistant - Level 2 (PS25)

The main functions of the PSA role include cleaning, meal delivery, patient transport and courier, and patient and ward support.

The role of a PSA requires effective and efficient cleaning of acute areas, ensuring a safe environment for patients, visitors and staff in accordance with the Victorian Healthcare Cleaning Standards.

What do you need to start?

To apply for the role of a PSA Level 2 you require a Certificate III in Health Services Assistance.

Locally, The Gordon runs Health Services courses. The courses are full-time with placements available at Barwon Health and career opportunities after course completion.

Theatre Technician

Theatre technicians are an integral part of the perioperative team, working closely with doctors and nurses in operating theatres to care for patients before, during and after operations. They ensure a patient's safety and comfort while they are in the operating theatre and may set up equipment used during surgery.

Duties of your role include:

• Being familiar with the daily theatre work schedule
• Communicating with theatre colleagues to ensure timely completion of tasks
• Ensuring a clean, well-prepared theatre environment for staff and patients
• Ensuring the correct positioning and preparation of the patient for their procedure

What do you need to start?

All you need is to want to work in a hospital, have a mature attitude, have a want to care for people and be able to learn on the job. Barwon Health can provide the training if you want to work with us.

You will be required to obtain both a current police check and approved Working with Children’s Check and provide and meet Barwon Health’s immunisation requirements (including full Covid-19 and Influenza vaccination) set out in the Staff Immunisation Policy.

You are challenged to think on your feet and assist and problem solve on a daily basis. Working in a team environment very rewarding. Instrument Technician

What work would you be doing?

Instrument technicians hold a unique and vital role within health services.

As an instrument technician you will be involved in the reprocessing of reusable medical devices that require disinfection and sterilisation. The majority of the work for an instrument technician is the decontamination, disinfection, packing and inspection and sterilisation of surgical instrumentation.

While surgical instruments are the main workload of the department we also reprocess medical devices and instruments from birth suite, ICU, medical imaging and many other areas of the organisation.

What do you need to start?

Locally, The Gordon runs a course: HLT37015 Certificate III in Sterilisation Services. The course is part-time (one day a week) for 12 months and you can work while you study.
