⚠️ COVID-19 VACCINATION UPDATE
17 June vaccination update: The Australian Technical Advisory Group on Immunisation (ATAGI) advises that Pfizer is now the preferred COVID-19 vaccine in adults aged under 60 years.
The Australian Technical Advisory Group on Immunisation (ATAGI) has recommended that Pfizer is now the preferred COVID-19 vaccine in adults aged under 60 years. We take the health and safety of our community very seriously. We have immediately paused administering first doses of the AstraZeneca vaccine to people under the age of 60, and will be contacting those with bookings to update them with the latest information.Whilst we expect this to cause some concern for people wanting to get vaccinated, we hope they take comfort knowing that our vaccines are constantly monitored to ensure they are safe.We highly recommend that people who have already received their first dose of AstraZeneca receive their second dose, which is the recommendation by the Australian Technical Advisory Group on Immunisation (ATAGI).
15 June vaccination update: WALK-INS PAUSED (FIRST DOSE ONLY)

⚠️ Information about the AstraZeneca vaccine
The Australian Government received important advice from Australia’s expert vaccine advisory body, the Australian Technical Advisory Group on Immunisation (ATAGI) about the use of the AstraZeneca vaccine for people under the age of 60.
The side effect involves thrombosis, which is blood clotting, and thrombocytopenia, which is a low blood platelet count. This very rare side-effect can affect 1 in 250,000 people.
The risk of this side effect may be greater for people aged under 60 years, and ATAGI has advised that the Pfizer vaccine is preferred over the AstraZeneca vaccine in adults aged under 60 years.
Barwon Health will prioritise our Pfizer doses to the under 60 age group. This will not impact on vaccine delivery for those requiring their second Pfizer dose. We will work closely with the Victorian Government to secure the supply we need to continue the vaccine roll-out for our region.
